Emraan Hashmi, also known as “The serial Kisser” was born as Emran Anwar Hashmi on 23 March 1979. His father, Anwar, is Muslim and his mother, Maherahh, is Catholic. He changed his name to Farhaan Hashmi but recently reverted to his original name, albeit with an extra “a” as per numerology beliefs. His nickname is Emmi.

Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt is his uncle and actress turned director Pooja Bhatt is his cousin. He is also related to singer Atif Aslam.

Emraan Hashmi, graduated from Sydenham in Mumbai where he studies graphics and animations. After graduation he made up his mind to pursue his career in film industry. Emraan Hashmi’s success has been attributed to his family connections with directors and producers Mahesh and Vikram Bhatt.

Emraan Hashmi’s six years in Bollywood have earned him the title of a serial kisser owing to a surplus of scorching, lingering, fleeting kisses that his roles have demanded of him, ensuring he is always in demand. There is more to him than that, of course.

Emraan made his debut in Bollywood with Footpath in 2003 but the film was critical and commercial failure, but the music was appreciated.

The following year he acted in Anurag Basu’s Murder, a thriller, with Mallika Sherawat. The film became a hit and drew the audience’s eyes on him. His next few films such as “Zeher”, “Kalyug”, “Aksar”, “Gangaster” and “Ashiq Banaya Aapne” were successful at box office and almost all the songs in his films sang by either Himesh Reshamiya or Kunal Ganjawala, became huge hit.

He is so fed up with his kissing scenes that he tried to shed his image of serial kisser in the film “Awarapan”. Even in his interviews Imran has said that he will not be doing any kissing scenes in his future films.

Emraan Hashmi only release in 2008 was Jannat which was critically and commercially successful. He was the perfect Prithvi, a painter, in the horror flick Raaz – The Mystery Continues (2009). Tum Mile (2009) with Soha Ali Khan received good reviews. It was about the ex-lovers reuniting during the infamous Mumbai floods of 2005.

The actor has always been surrounded by controversy because of the contentious scenes in all of his movies. Perhaps controversy comes with the territory he belongs to.

Hashmi married his long time girl friend, Parveen Shahani in December 2006. He became father to a baby boy on 4 February 2010 and named him Ayaan.
