Abhishek Bachchan Profile
Abhishek Bachchan, born on 5 February 1976 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is an Indian actor and producer. He is the son of Indian actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. Abhishek Bachchan has been groomed within the periphery of the film industry from a very early age. It is futile to talk about Sri Amitabh Bachchan, the living legend of the Indian Film Industry but to be very precise in the development of Abhishek as a man and a film actor the greatest influence has been of his father’s. His mother is also regarded as one of the classic actresses that contributed to the industry.
Abhishek’s elder sister is Shweta Bachchan-Nanda, His grandfather, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a poet of Hindi literature. The original last name of his parental family is Srivastav, Bachchan being the pen name used by his grandfather. However, when his father Amitabh entered films, he did so under his father’s pen name. Bachchan is of Kayastha heritage from his father’s side, Bengali Kulin Brahmin from his mother’s side and Punjabi Sikh from his grandmother’s side.
Abhishek Bachchan attended Jamnabai Narsee School and Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai, Modern School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, and Aiglon College in Switzerland, and then attended Boston University.
Abhishek Bachchan is being regarded at present one of the very few actors of Bollywood who has come to rock the stage and rule the industry for years. To many since he is the ward of the first family of the film industry, that provides him with an added advantage. However, it is true that though he initiated his career in 2000, it was not until 2004 that he rose into prominence and became able to earn luarels from the Indian audience.
Despite coming from such an illustrous filmi family success in Bollywood didn’t come easy for the Abhishek. He made a debut with Kareena Kapoor in JP Dutta’s moderately average Refugee in 2000. But thereafter success seemed miles away as the actor suffered with a series of flops till Mani Ratnam came knocking at his door.
In 2004 we saw the real actor in Abhishek in Ratnam’s Yuva. And from then on there has been no looking back for Bachchan Jr. who has had various hits including Bunti aur Babli and Guru. After 14 flops and 4 years of his career, Abhishek finally tasted success with Yash Chopra’s ‘Dhoom’ which finally ended his jinx. ‘Dhoom’ followed by ‘Sarkar’ and ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ consolidated Abhishek’s career, who finally acquired the superstar status.
Abhishek endorses brands like Ford Motors, LG Appliances and Motorola in India. Abhishek is regarded as the country’s biggest superstar in the making and he dreams of becoming as big as his father.
Abhishek’s personal life has been equally filled with ups and downs. After being engaged to actress Karisma Kapoor, the marriage was suddenly called off and the two parted ways. But in early 2007, Bachchan fell madly in love with Aishwarya Rai and after enjoying a whirlwind romance the two got married on April 20th, 2007.
Abhishek Bachchan was named the sexiest man in Asia by UK magazine Eastern Eye. The Times of India called him the most eligible bachelor of India.
