Abhay Deol, born on 15 March 1976 is an Indian actor originally from Chandigarh, Punjab. He is an Indian film actor and producer whose family has a long history in the Hindi film industry. Abhay Deol wears a mischievous gleam in his eye and thinks nothing of taking risks in the roles he plays – be it as superman or a heart broken junkie. Abhay is the nephew of famous veteran actor Dharmendra and cousin of actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol and actress Esha Deol.

Abhay Deol was active in theater while in school, which motivated him to pursue acting in movies. Painting, philosophy and journalism were his other interests. After graduating from Mumbai University, Abhay headed to Los Angeles and studied Fine Arts. After completing a two year acting course, and joining the Hindi cinema.

Abhay Deol made his film debut in the 2005 film Socha Na Tha (2005) opposite Ayesha Takia. Although the film got him good reviews for his performance but it did not well at the box office.

Imtiaz Ali’s Socha Na Tha was his first movie. He starred with Ayesha Takia as Viren Oberoi. The movie failed to perform well.

Abhay Deol acted in Ahista Ahista with Soha Ali Khan but the movie repeated a similar performance as his first movie and failed while his performance was appreciated.

Abhay’s Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd, a comedy about newly weds was very popular with the crowds. Ek Chalis Ki Last Local with Neha Dhupia and Manorama Six Feet Under both did not meet with the same success.

2008 Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! saw him playing a thief Lucky Singh and got a thumbs up from the critics. Abhay Deol’s most talked about release in 2009 is Dev D, an adaptation of the novel Devdas with a twenty first century twist. Meridian was another movie.

Abhay Deol had four professions in mind: acting, painting, philosophy and journalism. He chose acting. Abhay Deol says he likes Iranian films because “they make something magical out of the simplest subjects.” All of the films he has starred in have been helmed by debutante directors.
