Aamir khan was born on March 14 1965 in Bandra, Mumbai in a conservative Muslim family that has been actively involved in the Indian motion picture industry for several decades. His father, Tahir Hussain, was a film producer while his uncle, Nasir Hussain, was a film producer as well as a director and an actor which has been part of Hindi Film Industry for a long time.

Aamir khan was first introduced as a child artiste in the 1970′s hit Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973) — he was the youngest child in the trio, it was not a real part just a blink and miss appearance in the title song of the film. He again appeared as a child artist in the film Madhoshi (1974).  He ‘quit’ movies and went on to become the state tennis champion for Maharashtra.

Aamir khan ‘s first notable leading role came in 1988 in the film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak which was directed by his cousin and Nasir Hussain’s son Mansoor Khan. This film was a breakthrough commercial success, effectively launching Khan’s career as a leading actor. Having the typical ‘chocolate hero’ looks, he was publicized as a teen idol.Aamir khan also starred in critically acclaimed film Raakh, for which Khan got his first National Award for Special Jury Award. After that, he went on to appear in several other films in the late ’80s and early ’90s.

Aamir Khan also co-wrote the screenplay for Mahesh Bhatt’s film “Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke”, and also acted in the same. Amir Khan won his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in the film “Raja Hindustani”. This was followed by semi hit films such as “Ishq”, “Ghulam” and “Sarfarosh”.

Aamir Khan won his second Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in the “Academy Nominated” movie “Lagaan”. He also earned nomination for best actor in the Filmfare Award ceremony for his acting in the film “Dil Chahta Hai”.

After giving several commercially successful movies and delivering highly acclaimed performances, Aamir khan  is now one of the top and most successful leading actors of Hindi cinema. Recently, Aamir directed “Taare Zameen Par” and won the Filmfare Best Director Award.

In 2001 Khan set up a production company known as Aamir Khan Productions. Its first film was Lagaan.

In 2007 he turned director with the film Taare Zameen Par which not only brought him immense critical acclaim but was a huge box office success. Many of his films are considered as cult classics like QSQT, Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, Range De Basanti, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander and Andaz Apna Apna. His “Rang De Basanti” “Lagaan” have created a record in the Indian film history. They won many International awards. They were also official Indian entry to the Oscars.

Aamir khan  is said to be the actor who first started the trend of actor’s working in one film at a time, when the others worked in four or five at the same time. He is also known to shun popular film trade magazine awards like Filmfare, Star Screen etc as he doesn’t have trust in their credibility and transparency. Recently he was awarded the third highest civilian honour Padama Bhushan by the government of India.

Aamir Khan is extremely choosy in selecting the story he won’t accept each and everything.

Aamir Khan married Reena Dutta, who had a small part in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, on April 18, 1986. They have two children, a son named Junaid and a daughter, Ira. Reena was involved briefly in Khan’s career when she worked as a producer for Lagaan. But they ended up their 15-year marriage and got divorced. Reena took custody of both children. Then Aamir Khan married Kiran Rao in December 2005,who had been an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowariker during the filming of Lagaan.

Aamir Khan, a method actor, his range of characterizations remains unparalleled and because of this diversity and his ability to portray different characters believably on screen, today he is regarded as not only one of the biggest Superstars but also one of the finest actors of Indian Cinema.

Though nominated many times, Aamir Khan does not attend any Indian film award ceremony as he feels “Indian film awards lack credibility”. In 2007, Khan was invited to have a wax imitation of himself put on display at Madame Tussauds in London. However, Khan declined stating that, “It’s not important to me… people will see my films if they want to.

Aamir Khan emerged as one of Hindi cinema’s most popular leading men by his mid-20s, and has remained one of Bollywood’s most swooned after actors some two decades later.
